Design practices unfold in workshops. The physical makeup of these spaces influences the work which is created.
Clara Manigne-Malan immersed herself in three different workshop environments, experiencing their distinct methodologies through active participation.
For months on end, she manually carved green wood amidst birds and seasonal changes in a forest. Other times, she navigated the materially segregated and result-oriented workshops in the Design Academy.

Immersed in these differing environments, Clara questioned how educational philosophies, spaces, and design interrelate.
The workshops are complex, everchanging systems composed of machinery, resources, architectural space, and people. They reflect ideological positions as well.

‘Workshop Narratives’ is a multiformat installation, opening up a discussion about the coherence between the spatial typologies of workshops and the work produced.
